Master student Katrin Berger works with NuSTAR data of the high-mass X-ray binary 4U 0115+63 and studies the light curve and the spectrum of this system, in which the compact object is an accreting neutron star. She is a part of the Remeis family since 2018, when she started working on her Bachelor’s thesis in the X-ray group. In her interview, she talks about her current project, why she wanted to work at the observatory, and what her experience on studying physics as a female student is like so far.

In her interview, she talks about what these sources are, why she has not one, but two PhD advisors, and what she likes about giving guided tours at the observatory.

This month’s #WhoIsDrRemeis episode introduces PhD student Dominic Bernreuther, who works on extended Galactic structures in the group of Prof. Manami Sasaki. Using Machine Learning, he is writing a software to find these structures automatically.
At the Remeis Observatory, he is part of the Social Media Team since its start in 2019.

The first episode of #WhoIsDrRemeis is now online!

Each month, there will be an episode introducing one member of the Remeis observatory. The first member to be introduced is Maximilian Lorenz. He is a graduate student and working with Prof. Jörn Wilms on simulations for the ATHENA X-ray mission, which will be launched in the early 2030s.
