Ohm prize of FAU physics department awarded to two members of the Remeis Observatory

Caroline Collischon

Steven Hämmerich

The Ohm prize of the department of Physics is awarded each year for the best theses. This year, two of our Master students were awarded with the prize by the Ohm prize committee and the whole observatory congratulates both for their honored achievement.

Caroline Collischon wrote her Master’s thesis about the  ‘Analysis of Structures in the Magellanic Clouds with Minkowski Tensors‘ under the supervision of Prof. Manami Sasaki and developed data analysis methods to detect stellar bubbles based on Minkowski tensors.

Steven Hämmerich worked on the ‘Quantitative spectral analyses of blue horizontal branch stars‘ in the working group of Prof. Ulrich Heber. He studied 14 stars using a combination of data from several optical telescopes and the GAIA satellite in order to characterize blue horizontal branch stars in the Galactic field.

Caroline and Steven both remain at the Remeis Observatory for their PhD studies.
