What can we learn about stars? -part 4-

Spectral Classes

Stars are coloured! The hottest stars appear blue (top spectrum), the coolest red (bottom). One can arrange stellar spectra by the strength and other characteristics of their lines, thus creating the sequence: O - B - A - F - G - K - M.

O 50000K
B 20000K
A 10000K
F 7500K
G 6000K
K 4000K
M 3500K
